Here is an attempt to define a word. It's not a long word, though it often gets met with confusion and attempts to understand that are invariably in the wrong direction. Let me first give some background. A Theist is one who believes in some form of deity or deities. A Gnostic is 'one who knows' from the Greek gnosis; to know. An Agnostic is 'one who does not know', or is not sure about the presence or details of deities. An Agnostic person can have a spiritual life while never knowing of a god or gods.
Keep this all in mind.
Ignorance is not stupidity. To think so is stupidity itself. Ignorance means that one does not have knowledge. One who does not have knowledge or is incapable of gathering this knowledge is therefore ignorant. It is not an insult to be ignorant.
Keep this in mind, as well.
In my opinion, language and human thought are not up to the task of truly communicating to another person the true idea of deification. I'm not trying to put across the idea that "we are but ants to God" or anything like that. I'm saying that what a god is, or may be, we are unable to express clearly. Our language doesn't have the words for it. We think in language symbols so even our thoughts are incapable of expressing deities. We are forever ignorant of the true nature of gods.
Some may argue that there are monks, fakirs and such that have achieved an enlightened state and can think such thoughts. Possible. Likely, even. Could such and enlightened person tell you about god? Not likely. If they could, would you understand. No. You would not. You remain in ignorance. Only through intensive training of the mind could you hope to understand. 98% of the people in the world are not going to bother.
Most people are going to go through their lives believing in God or gods and goddesses. They will practice their rituals and say their prayers. They will go through their motions believing they know what they can never know. I am one such person. I am Ignostic. I know (gnosis) that I will remain in ignorance.
